LITTLE ROCK – During the 2016 fiscal year, Arkansas businesses earned $25 million in contracts from the Department of the Navy, and on Oct. 18, the Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center will host a workshop to help other Arkansas businesses do the same.

The Department of the Navy Small Business workshop runs from 10 a.m. - noon and will be held at the Cooperative Extension Service auditorium, 2301 S. University Ave. in Little Rock. APAC is part of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and is operated through the Cooperative Extension Service as part of its Community and Economic Development outreach.

The keynote speaker is Emily Harman, director, Office of Small Business Programs for the Department of the Navy. She joined the secretary’s staff in 2015 and has more than 30 years of federal service. A certified Professional Contracts Manager through the National Contract Management Association, she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Science from the United States Naval Academy, and a Master’s degree in Management/Acquisition and Contract Management from the Florida Institute of Technology.

In addition to Harman, attendees will also hear from the Small Business Administration, the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce, the Arkansas Small Business and Technical Development Center, as well as APAC Program Manager Melanie Berman.

The program will also include a Q&A session.

“This a unique event tied in with the first-ever Navy week in Little Rock,” Berman said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for Arkansas small businesses to become acquainted with the Navy and how the Navy’s needs can translate into growth for your business.”

America’s Navy is coming to Little Rock Oct. 16-22, the city being one of 15 hosting Navy Week, one of the Navy’s signature outreach programs.
