LITTLE ROCK – The Sept. 30 close of the federal fiscal year will open a brief window of opportunity for Arkansas businesses, according to the Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center.
The Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center, or APAC, will offer two trainings to Arkansas business owners in preparation for the year end contracting process.
Alyssa Huber, extension program technician for APAC, said the federal fiscal year can come with a bonus for some small businesses.
“As the fiscal year comes to a close, the federal government must spend the remainder of any annual budget they have,” she said. “This is a huge opportunity for small business owners to acquire contracts from the government to earn a little extra jingle in their pockets.”
According to Huber, the businesses need to be quick on their feet in order to grab a contract from the federal government and preparation is key.
Training dates and locations
Two trainings will be held in order to help small business owners prepare for the federal fiscal yearend.
- The first training will be held in Little Rock at Cooperative Extension Service on June 12 from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
- The second training will be located in Bentonville at Northwest Arkansas Community College on June 21 from 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
- An additional introduction course titled “Selling to the Government” will also be offered in Little Rock at Cooperative Extension Service on June 19 from 2-3:30pm.
“Small business owners will benefit greatly from these sessions,” said Huber.
Attendees will learn more about the yearend government contracting process and what to do in order to procure those contracts.
The Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center, operated in the Cooperative Extension Service’s Community and Economic Development section, is a program that assists Arkansas small business owners in attaining government contracts. All of the services are free, and there are a variety of benefits to small business owners. APAC offers one-on-one counseling, assistance with government certifications and registrations, solicitation analysis, and much more. APAC strives to better the overall economic impact within the state of Arkansas by providing valuable services at no cost for the small business owners.
