‘Homegrown Profits’ workshop to help Arkansas growers connect with buyers

LITTLE ROCK -- Arkansas farmers looking to expand the reach of their products into farmers markets, restaurants and other outlets will hear plenty of ideas at “Homegrown Profits,” an agricultural marketing workshops set for March 4 at the ASU-Beebe student center.
“This workshop will give Arkansas farmers a chance to hear from a range of experts and peers who can help them expand the market reach of their produce, livestock and value-added products such as soaps and cheeses,” said Ron Rainey, extension economist and head of the Arkansas MarketMaker project.”

The workshop opens at 8:30 a.m. in the Walmart Room with wrapup at 2:30 p.m.
Among those on the agenda:
- Bobby Hall, extension program associate for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture - talking about the Arkansas Procurement Assistance Center
- Rainey will talk about MarketMaker
- Stacey McCullough, assistant director of the U of A System Division of Agriculture Public Policy Center, will discuss entrepreneurship
- Bruce Tencleve, commodity coordinator at Arkansas Farm Bureau
- Zach Taylor, Arkansas Agriculture Department on the Arkansas Grown program
- Rob Darling,
- Steve Seideman, extension food processing specialist.
Attendees will also hear success stories from Kenny and Rebecca Simon of Simon Farms, Chuck McCool of McCool farms and Beth and Butch Eggers of Wye Mountain Flowers and Berries.
The final sessions will include Stephanie Buckley of Arkansas Women Bloggers on “Telling
your farm story through online and traditional media;” Robert Darling of the U.S.
Department of Labor “Addressing farm labor issues;” and Seideman discussing the “Farm
Food Safety Self-Assessment Program.”
The conference is sponsored by Arkansas Farm Bureau and the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.
