LITTLE ROCK – If you’ve ever been drawn to the idea of raising bees for honey, now’s your chance to learn the basics of bee health, hive management and honey harvesting, from a master beekeeper.

Bee Hive Indoor Observation Installation

Join Jon Zawislak, extension apiculturist for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, for a beekeeping short course that runs once a week for three weeks. There are three nights of classes: March 20, March 27 and April 3.

The classes run from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. and will be hosted at the Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center, 8300 Wells Lake Road in Fort Smith.

There is no cost to attend the classes, but pre-event registration is required to ensure enough materials for all students.

“This three-day course is designed for the beginning beekeeper. It’s everything you need to know to begin keeping honeybees safely and successfully at home,” Zawislak said. “But even experienced beekeepers can learn a few new things.”
