Best of Show, Hand-pieced Quilt Is Centerpiece of Fund-Raising for NVON Meeting
The centerpiece of the fund-raising efforts to help defray costs of the upcoming meeting of the National Volunteer Outreach Network (NVON) is a hand-pieced quilt. Raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
The meeting will be hosted by the Arkansas Extension Homemakers Council at the Holiday Inn at Springdale in July.
The quilt was created by four members of the Piecemakers Extension Homemakers Club – Carolyn Jones, Peggy Mobley, Mary Yates, and Ruth Hall – of Yell County. On September 9, the quilt was awarded a Best of Show ribbon at the Yell County Fair.
Ruth, who is secretary of the State Council, and Darlene Holliday, past Ouachita District Director, have taken on the task of fund-raising for the meeting. The drawing for the quilt will be held July 24 during the NVON meeting. The winner will not have to be present to win.
In addition to the quilt raffle, several Extension Homemakers have created handmade items that are being sold around the state at the district meetings and will be available at the Ferndale meeting in March, as well as the state meeting in June at Hot Springs.
These range from baskets filled with handmade items to table runners, headbands, aprons, plastic bag holders, totes and a variety of other imaginative and useful handmade items created to sell to help fund the upcoming meeting.
Anyone who wants to purchase tickets or would like to help sell tickets may contact Ruth Hall at
10151 Longview Lane, Belleville, AR 72924 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
All proceeds from the sale of these handmade items and the quilt raffle tickets will be used to defray the costs of the NVON meeting.
Other fund-raising activities have included the sale of table runners at the 2016 state meeting and tote bags at the 2017 meeting.
NVON is made up of eight states – Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The mission of the organization is for member organizations to work together to promote communications, education, and volunteerism for all people.
