Visit Our Farms: Where the Research is Happening

Three cooperating farms are hosting one experiment over a two-year time period. 


  • Growers are working with investigators to maintain the trials, assist in making treatments, and collecting data, including harvest.  Growers will maintain records of all inputs for economic analyses at the conclusion of the trial.  Once data has been collected, the berries will be marketed or disposed of by the grower.

Gillam Farm

The largest blackberry producer in Arkansas, Gillam Farms, is interested in expanding their traditional production to include primocane-fruiting cultivars.  Gillam Farms currently has four acres of Prime-Ark 45 blackberries specifically for the late summer market.

Owned and operated by Belinda and Eric Lum, is located 5 miles south of New Boston, TX on Texas Highway 2149 W.  This family-friendly U-Pick/We-Pick farm offers about 2 acres of Ouachita® blackberries, 1.5 acre of peaches of various cultivars, and recently, blueberries.

Sta-N-Step Farm

This farm currently produces half acres of blackberries, half acres of raspberries and four acres of blueberries all for the summer U-Pick market. In late April 2016, Sta-N-Step farm began to participate in this Southern Region SARE project.
