Saline County EHC Program

The Saline County Extension Homemakers participated in the Ouachita District President's Day training held in Hope at the University Of Arkansas Community College. There was a total of twenty five counties participating! Members learned how to quickly refresh with Yoga poises that will allow them to continue being “Wonder Women” making great changes in our county. The ladies had a silent auction to raise funds for the District Director’s travel, and for fun they learned how to Origami fold Lotus Blossoms!

Saline County 4-H: Making the Best Better

Saline County's 4-H program is for all youth between the ages of 5 and 19. We have a variety of community and special interest clubs with something for everyone. Member projects range from Health and Wellness to Crop and Seed Identification to Backyard Poultry. We have a strong emphasis on ATV safety and often conduct courses to teach hands-on riding safety to children. The goal of the Saline County Extension Service is to offer the opportunity to each eligible youth to become involved in the 4-H Youth Development Program.

Join a 4-H club today!  For additional information on 4-H in Saline County, contact  Stephany Rogers

Agriculture: Working with Producers of All Ages

Saline County producers are searching for crop alternatives to hay and pasture. An eleven-year-old Saline County resident, interested in getting a start in farming, wanted to find a crop she could grow on her grandfather's land. Specialty crops frequently require expertise in new production, management, and marketing skills.

With the knowledge and instruction from the Saline County Extension Service staff along with the help and encouragement from her grandfather, she learned to overcome drought, johnsongrass, and insects to produce a viable crop of pumpkins and take that crop to market. She was so excited with the results that she put back part of her profit for the next year’s crop production expenses.

The Saline County Extension Service has many services and educational tools to offer producers of all ages, as well as, homeowners.  For more information contact Ron Matlock.

Master Gardeners:  Beautifying the County

The Master Gardener volunteer program provides an opportunity for individuals interested in gardening to learn and serve their communities.

For 22 years, the Saline County Master Gardeners have cared for the flower beds in front of the Gann Museum. The museum is an architectural landmark being the only known building in existence that is constructed out of bauxite. Built in 1893 as the office of Dr. Jewell Gann Sr., the museum is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Master Gardeners feel a connection to Saline County’s past through this long tenured project to beautify the grounds in front of the building.

In addition to beautification projects, the Saline County Master Gardeners sponsor a wide range of educational programs, seminars, plant sales, and other activities.  For more information contact Ron Matlock
