Row Crop Update
Multiple Inlet Rice Irrigation (MIRI) demonstrations have been put into play this year in Prairie County. MIRI reduces the cold water effect on the first levee, reduces total water use by 25 percent, allows for the implementation of alternating wetting and drying, and a faster flood time than the traditional cascade watering system. Being able to quickly flood a rice field is beneficial for being able to get the flood established for water management as well as weed control and ensuring fertilizer efficiency. For more information about this contact our office.
Prairie County tomato demonstration is in full swing. The purpose of the tomato demonstration will be to compare how pruning affects the health and yield of tomato plants. Yield will be measured by recording the number of tomatoes produced; weighing the tomatoes and recording the harvest dates. Yield data collected will be weight and number of tomatoes produced from the pruned and non-pruned tomato plant. For more information contact our office.
