I love camping. Well…I love camping in a camper I should say. Unfortunately, Brandon and I usually only get to go once or twice a year due to responsibilities on the farm and my crazy summer schedule. But we really enjoy getting away from the hustle and spending time enjoying the great outdoors.

One of the things on my summer bucket list this year was to take my kids on their first camping trip. Now…I knew this trip would look a little different than the ones I’m used to. My children are 4 and 11 months old so I was fully aware that there wouldn’t be much time sitting around relaxing or reading a magazine. But to me a few days away, with unstructured time outside, would be a great way to make memories with them.

So I took a few days off and we drove to the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro. This park has a lot to offer a variety of age groups:  digging for diamonds (which we didn’t do, but definitely will once my kids are older), watching wildlife, walking the paved scenic walking trails, fishing, guided programs and activities, playing on the playground, and our personal favorite was the Diamond Springs Water Park. It was perfect for my kids - waterfalls, geysers and sprayers, waterspouts, water slides and more. The park also has an on-site café which was a really convenient place for us to grab a quick lunch before we set up the camper.

We had the best time on this 3 day staycation. In the mornings before it got too hot we strolled the Little Missouri River Trail and then headed to the playground. After lunch we played at the water park and then grilled out for dinner. And of course it wouldn’t be a camping trip if we didn’t build a fire and make s’mores.
