Upcoming Events with Extension
There are so many programs and events going on in the world of Extension right now.
Nashville, Ark. – There are so many programs and events going on in the world of Extension right now. Special thanks to everyone who donated books and shopped at the STEM Club book sale this past weekend! In other 4-H news, it’s time for 4-Hers to plan for Poultry Chain Chickens- detailed information will be in the next 4-H newsletter and is posted on social media and available in the office. The Annual BBQ Bowl is coming up Super Bowl Weekend- this is not just for 4-Hers! Proceeds benefit 4-H, but we could not do it without the members of the community. Thank you to all the volunteers who will be assisting and all of you who plan on supporting 4-H by purchasing delicious ribs or Cornish hens. On February 16, 4-Hers from all over Arkansas will be traveling to the Capitol to the annual “4-H Day at the Capitol.” Howard County has 13 4-Hers attending this year! Lastly, our livestock judging team is preparing to compete in Fayetteville on February 24; wish them luck!
In agri-news, there will be a pesticide applicator’s training at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, February 27 at the EH Center, behind the courthouse. Before the training at 5pm, there will be a short “Invasive Weeds” program. In between the two programs, Mine Creek Conservation District will be sponsoring light refreshments. Please contact the office by February 22 to pre-register if you plan to attend; you may attend both or just the Invasive Weeds program, if your PAT license has not yet expired. I will be joining with Pike County in March to host a two-night event on Backyard Poultry Biosecurity, March 7, 6pm in Nashville at the EH Center and March 8, 10am in Langley at the Historic Langley Gym. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Dustan Clark, U of A Division of Ag. Associate Poultry Center Director. Please pre-register for this event by March 3 as light refreshments will also be served. In April, I will be partnering with other area agri agents to host the annual Grazing School and Field Day at SWREC Farm in Hope. More details to come on this event. Howard County UACES mailing list revision letters have been sent out to current individuals on the mailing list. If you wish to continue to receive my Beef and Forage newsletter and/or my Horticulture newsletter, be sure and make note of that. There is also a place to write in suggestions for programs or newsletter topics. I really appreciate the suggestions that have come in thus far! Keep sending them, please. I am here for you and want to make sure you are getting the information you need. If you are not currently on the mailing list, just give us a call and we will get you added!
For details or to RSVP for any of these events, just call the Howard County Extension office at 870-845-7517.
