4-H Programs: "Making the Best Better"
4-H is the youth development program of the University of Arkansas
Cooperative Extension Service. 4-H is a community-based, informal educational
program whose goal and motto is "To Make The Best Better."
This goal is achieved by providing participating youth ages 5-19 the chance
to enroll in a project of their choice, offering educational materials and
opportunities, and through social interactions at the local or club level,
county level, and even through state and national 4-H events.
4-H members are given the opportunity to gain leadership skills, learn
citizenship and communications skills, and engage in a variety of relevant
project activities and competitions such as the 4-H O’Ramas which are designed
to highlight skills learned through these projects.
Some of the highlights of 4-H programs offered in Yell County in 2001
include:
- Speak Up, Speak Out
- 4-H Forestry & Wildlife Judging Teams
- Money Sense For Kids Workshop
- 4-H Poultry Chain & Poultry Project Workshop
- Livestock Showmanship Clinics (Beef Cattle, Goats, & Sheep)
- Character Development School Enrichment
- Shooting Sports Training
- 4-H Horse Judging & Selection Training
