Youth Violence Prevention Programs Conducted in Woodruff County
This past year several violence prevention programs have been presented to
Augusta and Cotton Plant Elementary schools. These violence prevention programs
taught students how to manage anger, how not to be a bully, respect yourself and
others, brainstorming skills, and how to work out problems. Five hundred and
eighty eight students participated in these programs, and all the students and
teachers really enjoyed them.
One teacher said that her class had started respecting each other more.
Another teacher said that her class had stopped taking school supplies from each
other, and they learned to ask permission before they took something that did
not belong to them.
This cut down on a lot of unnecessary fighting in the classroom and on the
playground. Most of the students learned how to be more open minded, when it
came to dealing with other students being different from them. They also learned
to play different games that other children wanted to play.
These programs offered some good tips that the teachers could refer back to
when they had problems dealing with violence in their classrooms. The teachers
said they wanted more violence prevention programs next school year.
