County Impact Statements - Van Buren County
Master Gardener Program Grows
2001 was a year of growth for the Van Buren County Master Gardener Program.
The Master Gardeners worked on seven major projects throughout the county in
conjunction with several community groups, schools and towns. The Master
Gardener Group also excelled in recruiting new class participants by developing
a float for the county fair, setting up educational booths for the county fair
and Oktober Fest in Fairfield Bay. Radio spots were developed and newspaper
articles written.
The Master Gardener Class provides 40 hours of basic training in horticulture
to the participants. The participants also receive a Master Gardener handbook
filled with information on horticulture and in return the class participants
will give back hours to the community by working on projects through the Van
Buren County Master Gardener Program.
"I enjoyed everything about the Master Gardener Class and would recommend it
to anyone who likes to grow plants. Every speaker was well prepared and all the
demonstrations were outstanding."
