Proceedings and Guide for Authors
To assure that the technical information presented at the symposium is of high quality and is broadly disseminated, the American Fisheries Society has agreed to publish the proceedings of this symposium. All presentations, both oral and poster, will be included in the publication. Presenters of oral presentations will be required to submit an article for publication, following the guidelines given in the AFS North American Journal of Fisheries Management (NAJFM) Guide for Authors. Presenters of poster presentations will be required to submit a summary or management brief (1,000-2,000 words), also following NAJFM guidelines. All manuscripts are due by September 1, 2007 - prior to the symposium. All articles and management briefs will be submitted and reviewed electronically via http://afsbooks.allentrack.net/. The editors also invite anyone interested in serving as a reviewer for submitted articles to E-mail them their contact information and areas of interest/expertise.
· All manuscripts are due by September 1, 2007 – Prior to the symposium. Manuscripts are required for both oral and poster presentations.
· Manuscripts will be sent out for peer review by October 1, 2007.
· Reviews will be returned to authors by December 15, 2007.
· Revised manuscripts must be submitted by February 15, 2008.
· Final editing of all manuscripts must be completed by April 15, 2008.
· The proceedings will be submitted to the AFS Editorial Office by May 15, 2008.
· The target date for publication of the proceedings is July 1, 2008.
The American Fisheries Society will publish the proceedings of this symposium. All presentations, both oral and poster, will be included in the publication, as long as they are submitted by the deadlines given above.
Presenters of oral presentations will be required to submit an article for publication, following the guidelines for the AFS North American Journal of Fisheries Management (NAJFM). A Guide for Authors is published annually in the first issue of the Journal or can be found at http://afs.allenpress.com/fima.pdf or http://web.fisheries.org/main/images/stories/afs/najfm.pdf
Presenters of research studies must submit an article that includes an abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, etc. as described in the Guide for Authors. Case studies should follow this format as much as possible. The symposium organizers and proceedings editors are interested in seeing the results of evaluations, not just anecdotal essays. Presentations that describe an agency urban fisheries or aquatic education program are the exception, as they will not have methods and results. These may be just an essay on the topic. Still, the writing style must follow the NAJFM for consistency throughout the proceedings. Poster presenters will be required to submit a short written summary of their poster. The style should follow the guidelines for a NAJFM management brief or note as much as possible for consistency in style throughout the proceedings. If the poster covers a research study then the authors will be expected to follow the guidelines for a management brief and include all components of a Journal article: abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion, etc. as described in the Guide for Authors. Case studies should follow this format as much as possible. The symposium organizers and proceedings editors are interested in seeing the results of evaluations, not just anecdotal essays. Posters that describe an agency urban fisheries or aquatic education program will not have methods and results sections and thus can just be an essay on the topic.
