AMERICAN FISHERIES SOCIETY SOUTHERN DIVISION ARKANSAS CHAPTER UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF STUDENT SUB-UNIT BYLAWS
These are the procedures for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Aquaculture/Fisheries Club (AFC). This club incorporates the American Fisheries Society (AFS) Student Subunit of the Arkansas Chapter and University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Student Subunit of United States Aquaculture Society (USAS).
This club was organized with five goals:
Membership in the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club is open to all students interested in aquaculture and fisheries issues. Members in good standing are those members who have paid annual dues as established by the Executive Committee. All members are encouraged to actively participate or volunteer in projects sponsored by the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club.
Dues are assessed at the beginning of the Fall Academic Term at a rate of $10/individual (graduate/undergraduate). The AFC will send $5 per member to the Arkansas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society. The balance of dues will be put into the general treasury and used to support AFC activities. If the conjoined club splits into individual Aquaculture and Fisheries clubs, all money in the Bank will be split 50:50. If money of any kind is offered to the AFC by UAPB, the club will only accept a donation for one club not both the USAS and AFS. The balance of the AFS Student Subunit bank will be turned over to the AFC upon approval of these procedures by the AFC. The funds in that account are held by the AFC on behalf of both Student Subunits. If the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club chooses to divide, the money in the account shall be split evenly between the AFS and USAS Subunits. If one or the other Student Subunits ceases to exist, the fund will revert entirely to the other Student Subunit. Funds shall only be spent on AFC related activities.
The Executive Committee of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club shall be the presidents, vice-presidents, secretaries, and treasures from both of the Student Subunits. The president, vice-president, secretary and the treasurer from the two Subunits will be elected according their respective by-laws. Officers for AFS and USAS Student Subunits must belong to their respective parent societies before they take office in the fall following the spring election. All members of the executive Committee of the AFC are full voting members.
The presidents of the Executive Committees (AFS and USAS) of the AFC will work together as the over all presidents of the club. Duties of the two presidents of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club include conducting business, proceeding over club meetings and overseeing all Aquaculture/Fisheries Club activities. The presidents shall serve as representatives of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club between meetings. All officers of the AFC and the USAS, as well as club members will be expected to assist with the execution of all selected activities. Officers of the student sections of AFS and USAS will be responsible for ensuring that all requirements for their sections, as determined by the parent societies, are met. The advisors of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club shall be faculty and/or staff members at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The AFC Executive Committee will create ad-hoc committees that facilitate functions of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club, and they will appoint chairs to the committees as deemed appropriate.
Regular general membership meetings of the Aquaculture/Fisheries Club will be determined by presidents throughout the year. Executive and other Committee meetings will be held based on need as determined by the executive committees.
Each student Subunit is responsible for creating and maintaining a web page. The executive committees of the USAS and AFS are responsible for creating or delegating responsibility for creating and maintaining their section of the overall web page.
Currently the AFS Student Subunit is responsible for publishing the Arkansas Chapter Newsletter. This responsibility will remain with the AFS Student Subunit. The AFS Student Executive Committee will work with the AFS Student Subunit Advisor to publish the newsletter.
