In St. Francis County, child care providers attend UACES
programs in order to meet their required number of training hours. The UACES
offers these programs to residents for free. There has been a need for a news
program that would recapture the attention of the child care providers and teach
them something new, creative, interesting, and useful. Because of this need,
Arkansas 4-H Afterschool was brought to the state a few years ago. In those 2
years, the number of people attending the classes has almost doubled. The
residents are relieved to have a program so useful to them, and are excited
about the future opportunities of 4-H Afterschool.
The initial 4-H Afterschool Program Training was conducted on
Tuesday, December 12, 2006 in Brinkley. At this meeting, we were equipped with
the necessary curriculum, supplies, and materials to take the program to our
county. On Saturday, March 31, 2007, the program was offered to all who were
interested. The program was conducted at the Woodruff Electric Annex building in
Forrest City, which is St. Francis County.
