Sebastian County 4-H

What is 4-H?

Information for Adults

4-H Clover4-H is the youth development program conducted by the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service. 4-H members can select from many activities in 82 project areas ranging from automotive to clothing to space camp.

Adult leaders, trained by county Cooperative Extension Service Faculty, teach projects to children using the "learn -by-doing" method. 4-H teaches leadership, citizenship, and skills children will use through out their lives. Each year Arkansas 4-H youth receive more then $80,000 in college scholarships at the state level for their 4-H work. Some scholarships are available at the county level.

4-H programs enable youth gain knowledge, develop life skills, build self-confidence, learn responsibility, and form attitudes so they may set and achieve goals and become productive members of society.

Youth involved in 4-H:

  • Learn creative skills
  • Attend summer camps
  • Participate in fairs
  • Go on trips
  • Win ribbons, awards, and scholarships
  • Make new friends

In Arkansas there are three age levels in which youth can participate in the 4-H program. They are:

  • Cloverbuds: 5-8
  • Juniors: 9-13
  • Seniors: 14-19

When Do Clubs Meet?

4-H community clubs meet monthly throughout the county.

How does my child join a club?

Joining a 4-H club is easy! You and your child(ren) simply attend a local 4-H club meeting. Contact your county Extension office to obtain information about the club nearest you.

What about dues and uniforms?

In 4-H, there are no uniforms to purchase and no membership fees to pay.

What can I do to help?

Volunteers are essential to the continued growth and development of a successful 4-H program. A volunteer may be a 4-H parent, relative or friend or a supporter of 4-H. Volunteers may serve as judges, club or project leaders, chaperons, resource persons or promoters. They coordinate local community clubs and help to plan and conduct local, regional, state and national 4-H events. Call your local Cooperative Extension office to learn about how to apply and receive training to be a 4-H volunteer.
