Research Experience
Dr. Chen had field experiences (lentic and lotic, freshwater and marine, watershed-aquatic ecosystems) from ponds, lakes, and wetlands in the Central Yangtze River Basin, to streams and watersheds in the Central Appalachian Mountains, to watershed-coastal ecosystems in the North Central Gulf of Mexico, and now in the Lower Mississippi River Basin.

He had his laboratory training in chemical (e.g., water quality), physical (e.g., habitats), and biological analyses (e.g., fishes, aquatic plants, macroinvertebrates, and fecal coliform), and quantitative modeling training (e.g., statistical, hydrological, and GIS). His multidisciplinary training background and multiple field experiences made him love so many environmental issues related to anthropogenic stressors (e.g., aquaculture and other agriculture activities, urbanization), climatic change, and new energy development that we are facing or will face in the near future.
