Extension Homemakers "Reaching Out" to Growing Hispanic Population
The mission of Extension Homemakers is to empower individuals and families to
improve their quality of life through continuing education, leadership
development, and community service.
A state-wide effort is being made to involve the growing Hispanic population
in the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Program. Much of the 4.2%
population growth in Little Rock was due to Hispanics.
Extension Clubs meet once a month for an educational program. Leadership
training of local club leaders is conducted by Extension Staff. Two new Hispanic
clubs have organized through Hispanic Churches in Little Rock.
"It is difficult to easily sum up how important Extension has been in my
life. It has provided me numerous opportunities to learn about issues, which
impact my family and my community. As a result, I believe that I have provided a
happier, healthier home for my family and helped to improve my community.
Individuals such as myself deeply value Extension's role of lifelong learning.
Our lives are made better because they provide the tools we need to deal with
this complicated world." - Debbie Moreland
