County Impact Statements - Pulaski County
Kids Embrace American Patriotism

On Flag Day, June 14, 2001, 58 juveniles were arraigned in Pulaski County's juvenile courts. Across the river, on the other side of the county, 70 young people and their parents wrapped themselves in American patriotism. These Pulaski county youth were members of 4-H who met at Camp Robinson to learn the proper care, treatment, and history of the U. S. Flag. Staff from the Arkansas National Guard and Camp Robinson created a day of educational programs with visual presentations and tours filled with fun and new learning experiences for the Pulaski County 4-Hers.

4-H is a proven youth development program. It is an informal, practical, learn-by-doing educational program for youth between the ages of 5-19, from all racial, cultural, economic and social backgrounds. Programs available through 4-H today are as diverse as the young people themselves. Educational programs are tailored to the needs and interests of the young people involved and their adult club volunteers.

4-H is one of the three educational programs administered by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, involving both youth and adults. It is a family-community effort supplementing and complementing the mission of home, church, and school for the development of local youth.

"4-H projects and activities helped me to develop my leadership skills, management ability, record keeping, accountability, communication to others, and accepting challenges. I fully support young people being involved in 4-H work. The learning they will receive through 4-H will benefit them throughout their lives." - Phillip Webb, Business Executive
