DISTRIBUTION:
Pacific Ocean and the southern part of Kamchatka Peninsula and Province Siberia HABITS: Its a pelagic fish and capable to swim at high speeds. They typically migrate out to open sea. In culture systems they become cannibalistic. SPAWNING: There is a large spawning ground in the East China Sea. Larval fish attach themselves to drifting seaweed until they are 4 inches long. They remain there until they are two years of age and 16 inches long. GROWTH: Small juveniles reach market size within a year (2 to 3lbs). The second year they reach 4 to 6 lbs. USES: Sport fishery and commercial aquaculture CULTURE: Juveniles are reared in cages for two years and sold to the markets. As larvae they consume plankton until they are 4 inches long. Juveniles are fed minced sand laces and noncommercial shrimp. REFERENCES:
