DISTRIBUTION:
Waters around Taiwan HABITS: They are marine fish and can survive in freshwater. Most of these species are males during their early life and revert back to females during the latter part of their life. SPAWNING: Multiple spawner, females release small quantities of eggs. GROWTH: When monocultured the fish reached an average weight 225 g in one year. USES: Sparus auratus is the most popular food fish out of all the porgy’s (Sparidae). CULTURE: Economically it is much cheaper to have mass natural spawning in a controlled environment and collect the eggs at the outflow of the container.
