DISTRIBUTION:
Native to many large rivers in Europe HABITS: They are aggressive predators. SPAWNING: Wild caught fish are placed in storage basin with running water and artificially spawned on artificial nets (mats). GROWTH: Within 1 year they weigh 1.4 kg. USES: It’s a food fish and is used to control reproduction in culture (carp) ponds. CULTURE: Once artificial spawned, mats are removed and hung on wires and suspended in covered hatching crates. The loaded crates are affixed next to the inflow pipe similar to those used in overwintering and spawning. The crates contain 30,000 to 50,000 eggs, hatching occurs in about 60 hours. At 4 days fry began feeding and consuming large amounts of plankton. At age day 10 feed is prescribed and at day 35 they are stocked in ponds. At the end of their first summer they are stock with common carp. The following year they are harvested. REFERENCES:
