DISTRIBUTION:
Northern Asia, Northern Europe, Greenland and Iceland HABITS: Anadromous, in some areas they are landlocked and spend their entire lives in freshwater. SPAWNING: Spawns during the fall. Females build nests in gravel bottoms of lakes or streams. When temperatures are about 39oC females may lay 3000 - 5,000 eggs. Females in nature spawn every second or third year. GROWTH: Char grow slow. Char will reach pan size in 12 - 16 months. USES: Food fish (culturist) and sport fish. CULTURE: Char grow best at high stock densities with good water quality. REFERENCES:
