4-H Day with the Razorbacks

Homecoming Saturday at Fayetteville started out like any other…when suddenly
campus started turning green -- green in celebration of “4-H Day with the
Razorbacks.”
Even the street signs pointed the way to the Arkansas 4-H tailgate party.
Hundreds of current and former Arkansas 4-Hers, Division of Agriculture
employees and their families came together to celebrate 4-H’s one-hundred year
association with the University of Arkansas with food, fun, 4-H fellowship and a
good-ole Razorback football game.
The grill was sizzlin’ all morning with juicy burgers and dogs. Everyone ate
and drank to their heart’s (and stomach’s) content under the shady oak trees on
the patio of the Agriculture, Foods and Life Sciences Building - which was just
a stones throw away from the stadium.
After lunch, the grownups relaxed and visited while the kids burnt off some
pent-up energy.
Connie Phelps and 4-H vice president Marianne Campbell stayed busy at the 4-H
clover tattoo station. The clover transfers were a hit with the kids and the
adults.

After a few hog calls, it was time to head-off for the game.

It was easy to see from anywhere in the stadium the eleven-hundred 4-H
Razorback fans in their green and white T-shirts.
[Dr. Sugg]
Since 1908, 4-H has taught young people skills and knowledge, ethics and
personal responsibility.
A pregame announcement by Dr.
B. Allen Sugg played over stadium’s big screen proclaiming it was Arkansas 4-H
Day at the game.
It didn’t take long for everyone to get hogwild. An Air Force fly-over, the
running of the giant “A” and then the kick-off had 4-H Hog fans on their feet
and in a frenzy. And there was much to cheer about as the home team scored early
and often. But, you didn’t have to be a football fan to enjoy the crisp fall day
as this young 4-Her points out.
4-H Day with the Razorbacks was a complete success. Everyone cheered another
Razorback win as they commemorated the University’s and Arkansas 4-H’s
centennial anniversary.
