Identify Theft Protection
Identity theft is on the rise in Arkansas, and your
Cooperative Extension Service recommends protecting yourself by shredding
official documents such as bank and medical statements, canceled checks, and
credit card offers.
Don’t carry your social security card or write the number
on a check. Never give the number to an unknown caller and when it is required
for business, ask why it is needed, how it will be used and how it will be
protected.

Economy - Talk to Kids
Your children may be confused and anxious over news of the economy.
Your Cooperative Extension Service recommends addressing your child’s fears
by speaking to them honestly and assuringly. With younger children, discuss your
family’s situation and what they can expect.
Teens may express bold opinions, but don’t discount or argue with them.
Instead, listen patiently and work with them to find definitive information.

Cutting Back
Are you looking for ways to cut expenses?
Your Cooperative Extension Service recommends using playgrounds and parks for
exercise and recreation.
Borrow movies, music and books from your local library, and rent items you’ll
likely only use once.
Trade or swap items and services rather than paying for them.
Take the time to find the best buy. And don’t buy it if you don’t absolutley
need it!

May Gardens
Arkansas gardens are on the move this month.
Your Cooperative Extension Service recommends moving all you house plants and
tropical flowering plants outdoors this month.
Repot root bound plants into larger containers which will ensure they will
thrive and bloom at their best. Fertilize your potted plants monthly and pay
close attention to their watering needs.
Container plants tend to dry out quickly in Arkansas heat.
