Division of Agriculture, Soybean Promotion Board team up on soybean podcasts

LITTLE ROCK - The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture is teaming up with the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board to deliver the latest soybean production news on a weekly basis via podcast.

A link to the latest podcast will be delivered by e-mail or by cell phone text message to the growers.

"When growing conditions change as quickly as the Arkansas weather, soybean producers need quick, relevant information," said Dr. Scott Monfort, extension plant pathologist for the U of A Division of Agriculture. "We believe this program will enable us to deliver that information more quickly."

The podcasts will feature updates from Division of Agriculture experts: Dr. Ken Smith, extension weed scientist, Dr. Rick Cartwright, extension plant pathologist, Dr. Jeremy Ross, extension soybean agronomist, and Monfort.

Once growers receive initial notification of a new podcast, they will have the option to subscribe to an RSS feed, or continue to use the link contained in the e-mail or text message directing them back to the Division and Extension Service site. The podcasts will be available for download using either dial-up or high-speed connections to computers and personal mobile devices such as PDAs, iPhones, etc.

Soybean producers who wish to receive notice each time a podcast is posted on the U of A Division of Agriculture website, should provide to their county extension office either an e-mail address and-or cell phone number, along with the name of the cell phone service provider. This information will be kept confidential and will only be used to ensure the producers receive information on this project.

The podcasts are being funded in part by the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board.

The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.
