Forestry and wildlife field day offered June 21 near Fayetteville
LITTLE ROCK - Landowners and others can learn techniques to better manage
timberland at the Forestry and Wildlife Field Day set for Saturday, June 21, at
the Savoy Research Unit near Fayetteville.
The field day runs from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
"The field day is a great time to brush up on management tactics and learn a
few new ones that can make your forested land more productive," said Kyle
Cunningham, extension forestry instructor with the University of Arkansas
Division of Agriculture.
Field tour stops will cover:
- Hardwood stand rehabilitation using fire and herbicides
- Chainsaw use and management
- Managing small woodlots
- Improving quail habitats
- An introduction to Global Positioning Systems
An indoor presentation will address electronic mapping.
The registration fee is $10 per person, which includes handouts and
lunch.
"This workshop is an excellent opportunity for landowners to increase their
knowledge and interact with a variety of leading forestry professionals," said
Rob Beadel, forestry education director for the Arkansas Forestry Association
Education Foundation.
The field day is sponsored by: Arkansas Forest Resources Center, Arkansas
Forestry Commission, UA Monticello School of Forest Resources, Natural Resources
Conservation Service, Cooperative Extension Service, Arkansas Game & Fish
Commission, UA Agricultural Experiment Station and the Arkansas Forestry
Association Education Foundation.
