You know we're about to celebrate National Family Month and you may be asking
yourself, "Wow. How do you celebrate National Family Month?" Well, I'm glad you
asked.
There are three ideas I want to share with you. The first one is to make family
life a priority. Rather than giving family life just the cold leftovers of our
lives, maybe we can make it a priority. Maybe we can dedicate quality time, good
time, some of our best energy to doing things as a family.
There's second idea and that's to show love. There's nothing that improves
relationships quite like showing love. When you do things for a person that are
things they value, that strengthens a relationship. But there's a key in there,
it needs to be things that they value.
The third idea is building trust. Building trust, being reliable. Doing the
things that you say you'll do, showing that commitment in your life. But related
to building trust, I want to suggest another idea. One of the ways to build
trust is maybe improve the quality of our family life.
And I want to suggest a couple of books. In the area of marriage, one of the
best books is Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work, by John Gottman. A
superb book and can be very helpful as you want to strengthen a couple
relationship.
In the area of parenting, the book Between Parent and Child by Haim Ginott is a
superb book. So reading a book like that can make a difference. As we celebrate
National Family Month, think of something you can do to make your family life
even better.
