AEEA Environmental Education Expo 2008

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Environmental Education Association (AEEA) will hold its 2008 Environmental Education Expo July 31, at the Lake Point Conference Center in Russellville.

"The EE Expo will be beneficial for anyone who works with youth," said Suzanne Hirrel, environmental management extension specialist for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.

The expo will feature speakers Bora Simmons, director of the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education, and Tim Ernst, author and president of the Ozark Highlands Trail Association. The expo also offers a daylong silent auction and a wide variety of workshops. These range from "No Child Left Inside" to "Outdoor Education Curriculum" to "Schoolyard Rain Gardens."

"Attendees can learn how to get youth involved in citizen science, get some hands-on experience with outdoor education lessons, and get an overview of the national ‘No Child Left Inside’ program that is progressing through Congress to be incorporated in the ‘No Child Left Behind’ initiative," Hirrel said.

The expo will also allow participants an opportunity to share successes, suggestions, challenges and needs pertaining to environmental education efforts.

Registration for the event begins at 8:30 a.m.; the activities are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Before July 1, registration fees are $30 for AEEA members, $40 for non-AEEA members and $15 for students. After July 1, fees are $40 for AEEA members, $50 for non-AEEA members and $25 for students. Registration for the expo includes all workshop sessions, activities and lunch.

For more information about the expo or the AEEA, contact April Layher at (501) 773-1107 or info@arkansasee.org.

The AEEA is a networking and information based organization that works with educators, students, businesses, government and the general public to increase the awareness and knowledge about the environment.

The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.

This meeting is open to all interested persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information should notify the county extension office as soon as possible prior to the activity.
