CONWAY, Ark. – The 2008 Farm Bill will live a little longer, thanks to some legislative duct tape, but fight for a new farm bill is far from over. What could happen next will be addressed Jan. 30 at a conference to be held at the Conway County Fair Grounds in Morrilton.

The meeting runs 10 a.m. - noon. Lunch will be served and there is no cost to attend.

“This meeting will address the laws and regulations associated with the extension of the Farm Bill and the impact or steps in purchasing crop insurance,” said Hank Chaney, Faulkner County extension staff chair for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture.

The presenters for this meeting are Harrison Pittman, director of the National Agricultural Law Center and Grant Ballard, attorney with the Banks Law Firm, PLLC and research consultant to the National Agricultural Law Center. Harrison Pittman can be reached at hmpittm@uark.edu or (479) 575-7640. Grant Ballard can be reached at gballard@bankslawfirm.us or 800-246-8700.

On the agenda:

  • 2012-13 Farm Bill: Current status, update, and what is likely to happen next?
  • Federal Crop Insurance:  Overview, procedures and problems
  • Environmental Regulation:  Generally, and numeric nutrient criteria under the Clean Water Act
  • Question & answer session.

The workshop is provided by the Center and sponsored by the Banks Law Firm, PLLC, a Little Rock, Arkansas-based firm engaged in different aspects of agricultural law.
