"People attending the event will enjoy a presentation by the popular Kandy Jones, the Garage Sale Queen," says Don Plunkett, county staff chair for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Jones is a repeat speaker.

He invited residents throughout Arkansas to attend and learn more about gardening and caring for their lawns.

The 21st annual event is sponsored by the extension service, Jefferson County Master Gardeners and the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Clean and Beautiful Commission. The theme is "Come and Grow With Us."

Five seminars highlight this year's program, and guest speakers include extension horticulture specialists, Janet Carson with the U of A Division of Agriculture and Norman Winter of Mississippi State University.

Carson is a popular Arkansas gardening expert, and Winter is a noted writer and speaker. He has an award-winning TV/radio program syndicated throughout Mississippi, and his columns are nationally syndicated.

For people wanting to learn more about herbs, Debbie Tripp has a talk entitled, "So You Want to Start Your Own Herb Garden." Tripp has been interested in herbs for more than 12 years, having been introduced to them by her sister-in-law, Monica Arndt, who is past president of the Oklahoma Herb Society.

Throughout the years, Tripp's herb garden has grown, as has her knowledge and love of all types of herbs. She operates Rosemary Hill Herb Farm, an organic farm at Crystal Springs, just west of Hot Springs.

She'll provide information on growing conditions and uses for each herb. Recipes using some herbs will be available for free.

After the herb seminar, stop by Rosemary Hill Herb Farm's booth where you can purchase the herb plants.

The Master Gardeners will sell $1 tickets for a drawing for a 20-inch color television with DVD/VCR capability. Tickets for the drawing are available from Master Gardener members and will also be available the day of the seminar/show. The winner of the drawing will be announced during the seminar/show.

The show will be from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

For more information on the lawn and garden seminar and show, contact Plunkett at (870) 534-1033 or Gloria Sumner, Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Clean and Beautiful Commission at (870) 543-4901.

The Cooperative Extension Service is part of the U of A Division of Agriculture.

This event is open to all eligible persons without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status and is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information (large print, audiotapes, etc.) should notify the county Extension office as soon as possible prior to the activity.
