Audio/Video Script:

Severe weather can strike anywhere, at anytime in Arkansas. Damage caused by tornados and other storms can interrupt basic services like water, electricity and sanitation causing hardship and the potential for further injury and disease.

Every Arkansas family should be prepared with an emergency supply kit to help them recover and stay safe from a natural disaster.

Clean water is critical following a disaster. Store a three day supply of water for each person. Each person requires one gallon of water per day.

Store a three day supply of non-perishable food. Select foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking, and little or no water.

Include: Ready to eat canned meats, fruits and vegetables, canned juices, staples like salt, pepper and sugar

And don’t forget a supply of food and formula for infants, if necessary

Keep a first-aid kit stocked with an assortment of sterile bandages and gauze, include soap, sunscreen, and anti-septic wipes.

Keep a three day supply of essential prescription medications on hand as well as denture and contact lens needs and an extra pair of glasses. Include non-prescription medications like pain relievers, anti-diarrhea medicine, and antacids.

A well stocked tool kit can prove essential following a storm. Besides the basics like hammers and pliers, yours should include a battery operated radio and flash light with extra batteries for each; a non-electric can opener, utility knife and matches; Include a compass, signal flare and whistle along with a fire extinguisher.

Be sure to have copies of important family records and financial documents in a secured, but easily accessible place.

And don’t forget to keep enough cash, traveler’s checks and change available to take care of whatever purchases might be necessary immediately following a devastating storm.
