Winter Blues
The winter blues is real and affects nearly 450,000 Arkansans. And your Cooperative Extension Service alerts you that winter blues can be identified by increased lethargy, difficulty concentrating and performing normal tasks, and is often a cause of seasonal weight gain.
Winter blues sufferers often find relief with the use of light boxes, exercise, proper nutrition and sleep and medications.

Building Charisma
Charisma is a highly valued personality trait, and your Cooperative Extension Service insists personal charisma can be developed:
- By listening to the concerns of others without interruption,
- By delivering specific, sincere compliments when appropriate,
- By graciously acknowledging and accepting compliments from others,
- And by stating what you are in favor of rather than stating what you are against.

Flu Prevention
Holiday gatherings are fertile ground for the spread of flu viruses, but your Cooperative Extension Service recommends grounding the flu:
- By washing your hands often with hot soapy water,
- By using hand sanitizers when soap and water are unavailable,
- By avoiding touching your eyes, nose or mouth,
- And by wiping door handles, light switches and phones regularly with disinfectant wipes.

December Gardens
Poinsettias can stay colorful for months past the holidays under the right conditions. For best results, keep your poinsettias in bright light and keep the soil evenly moist.
Your Cooperative Extension Service recommends several other colorful houseplants that can brighten up the winter months such as amaryllis, cyclamens, chrysanthemums, and bromeliads.
