Young Parents Learn Money Management
Parenting and Food-Nutrition ... at Care To Share
"Care To Share canning classes taught me how to can pickles, salsa and jelly.
I was then able to use my grandmother’s canning equipment and can with my
daughter. We entered our canning in the County Fair. This is the first time we
have entered anything in the fair. My daughter won Best of Show for her pickles!
I have really enjoyed the Care To Share classes and being able to do things with
my daughter." - Liz Ballentine, Care To Share Participant
Care To Share is an innovative program developed in Montgomery County to
teach young parents basic skills in three areas:
- Food - Nutrition/Food Preservation
- Money Management
- Parenting
Extension Homemakers serve as mentors to these parents and teach them one on
one. The group meets the second Thursday night each month at the Mt. Ida High
School Family and Consumer Science Department. Free child care is offered at Mt.
Ida Pre-School. The adults and children are fed a nutritious meal and taught
classes on the above subjects.

Care To Share participants save money by learning Food
Preservation to help with their food budgets.
