Extension Agriculture Programs help area farmers
Quarterly Beef Cattle newsletter developed
Montgomery County Extension Office conducted training in the areas of
Pesticide Certification, Fire Ant Abatement and Equine Infectious Anemia
Verifier for farmers.
Brucellosis vaccinations are scheduled twice a year at no charge to the area
farmers. Approximately 400 calves vaccinated.
Assistance for alternative agriculture endeavors given to three area farmers.
Each summer, local farmers have a Farmers Market on the Courthouse square.
The Extension Office advertises this activity and provides media coverage. The
sign for the market was refurbished and displayed throughout the entire market
season.
Quarterly beef cattle newsletter "Montgomery County Cattle Call" developed
and sent to 106 farmers.
Pasture and forage recommendations provided.
New quarterly newsletter on Fire Ants "Fire Ant Facts" developed and reached
100 farmers.
Worked with county youth on their livestock projects. Assisted with livestock
clinics to prepare youth for county, district and state fairs. Made home visits
to determine if youth needed any assistance with their livestock.
