Monroe County
Agriculture Program
Cotton Production
With the increasing prices in every commodity but cotton, cotton
acreage in Monroe County has decreased. Cotton acreage had seen an
increase in recent years, with almost 30,000 acres planted in 2006,
the most since 1993. However in 2007 acreage dropped to 15,500 acres
and this trend will likely continue. Planted acres in Monroe County
could drop as low 10,000 in 2008, as producers plant more grains to
take advantage of the higher prices the market is offering.
Below, you will find links to websites and publications, from the
University of Arkansas, Cooperative Extension Service, that provide
recommendations and other helpful information for growing cotton in
Arkansas.
