The Best Care

Mississippi County Extension Agents provide educational training for daycare workers. According to state law, daycare workers must have 10 hours of training each year. Each year varying topics are chosen to provide a wide array of information to workers. Topics have included nutrition for children, daycare management, selecting professional advisors for the daycare and marketing a childcare program. Training by Extension professionals provides up-to-date researched-based information, quality childcare training and verification through the Arkansas Professional Development System.

Extension Homemaker Clubs

Mississippi County is home to seven EHC clubs. The county clubs are Dogwood, Parkside, Gosnell, Leachville, Manila, Town and Country and Cotton Belles. Each club meets monthly. Meeting topics include improving leadership skills, community service activities and varying educational presentations. Contact the Extension Office for a list of meeting times and places.

Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP)

One of the primary goals of the FSNEP program is to introduce young people to healthy eating habits. Healthy eating should be a life-long habit. By teaching children of families receiving food stamps to make healthy food choices, students will learn to better manage their food resources through adulthood. Students will also continue to make wise food choices and be able to maintain their health in years to come.

Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)

EFNEP is a series of lessons designed to teach basic nutrition principals. Participants must meet income requirements and have children under their care. Not only do participants learn to prepare healthy meals through food preparation demonstrations, but they also learn how to make wise food purchases while grocery shopping. All classes are free of charge. Contact the Extension Office for more details.
