What is 4-H?
A. 4-H is one of the world’s leading youth organizations. Founded
sometime between 1900 and 1910, 4-H reaches out to all youth from ages 5 to
21, depending on which state you are from. Not only does 4-H reach youth in
all 50 states, but it also reaches youth in more than 80 countries across
the world! 4-H enables youth to have fun, meet new people, learn new life
skills, build self-confidence, learn responsibility, and set and achieve
goals. Through 4-H, you learn by doing. 4-H is a youth organization that
spans all interests, all races and backgrounds, costs nothing to join, and
is great fun.
How old do you have to be to join 4-H?
A. Depends on what state you live in . . . but between the ages of 5
to 21. In Miller County, we go by the ages of 9 to 19 … Or until you
graduate from high school, whichever comes first, for an official 4-H
member. We also have the cloverbud program for youth ages 5 to 8. Our
cloverbuds compete in non-competitive events, but enjoy all the benefits of
4-H membership.
What are the 4-H colors?
A. The 4-H colors are green and white.
What does the clover stand for?
A. The 4-H emblem is the four-leaf clover with the letter “H” on
each leaf. The leaves of the clover are green and the H’s are white.
What do the colors stand for?
A. The green stands for nature’s common color and is symbolic of
youth, life and growth; the white stands for purity.
What do the four “H’s” stand for?
A. The four “H’s” stand for: Head, Heart, Hands, Health.
What is the 4-H motto?
A. To make the best better.
What is the 4-H pledge?
A. I pledge My head to clear thinking
My heart to greater loyalty
My hands to larger service
My health to better living
For my club, my community, my country, and my world
How can I join 4-H?
A. If you have a local club, ask your 4-H leader and they will help
you sign up. Or, you may contact the University of Arkansas Cooperative
Extension Service, Miller County Office, at (870) 779-3609, for more
information.
