Today’s Youth Leaders Learn Skills They Can Use Today and Tomorrow

Tomorrow’s leaders are being trained today. Marion County will have a supply of reliable, responsible leaders for the future. The Marion County Youth Leadership Advisory Board, made up of school counselors, school administration, Extension Personnel, and business and community leaders planned and conducted a leadership training program for ninth grade students to provide them with opportunities to learn and practice skills that will prepare them for these roles.

Students were selected from each of the three county schools were from Yellville-Summit : John Cortez, Katie Bertottie, Terra Layton, Josh Brandow, Gerric Fatheree, and Jo Jo Rinker; from Bruno-Pyatt: Amanda Hobbs, Andrew Stroud, Valerie Settlemoir, Jeff Trogdon, Noah Chagnon, Mary Beth Patton and Laura Bardsley; and from Flippin: Ashley Myers, Brookee Davis, Wendie Choudary, Amy Herbst, Amanda Lee, and Ashley Stevens.

A trip to the State Capital during a legislative session gave the students an opportunity to see state government in action. They met and talked with Secretary of State, Sharon Priest, State Representative, "Red" Milligan talked and State Senator, Gary Hunter.

Funds for conducting the youth leadership training program were provided by South Shore Foundation, Entergy, Marion County Adult Leadership Team, Ark-Plas, Animal Adventures, Hudson Foods, Sav-A-Lot, First Federal Bank, North Arkansas Abstract , and others.
