Spring Broadleaf Weed Control in Wheat (1:08 minutes)

Audio/Video Script:

Susan Scott
County Extension Agent - Agriculture

Not many broadleaf weeds in wheat reduce yield or are quality concerns. This is Susan Scott, County Extension Agent with the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture.

Controlling key broadleaf weeds will increase harvest efficiency and protect grain quality.

Garlic and onion complex reduce grain quality and are easily controlled with the full rate of Harmony Extra. Buttercup, chickweed, mustards, mayweed and shepherdspurse will also be controlled with Harmony Extra.

2,4-D provides more primrose control along with improved horseweed control and adequate suppression of garlic and other broadleaf weeds.

Dr. Bob Scott emphasizes the importance on never missing a chance to kill horseweed.

“If severe infestations of horseweed are present apply 1.5 pints of 2,4-D + 0.5 oz Harmony. Also remember the 2,4-D timing is after tillering but before jointing. Do this for your soybean crop, as much as your wheat. It will be much easier to treat the horseweed in wheat than to deal with glyphosate resistant horseweed in-season.”

Read and follow label directions regarding tank-mix partners for ryegrass control. For more information contact the Lonoke County Extension Office or you local County Extension Agent.
