Farm - City Tour A Success in Little River County
Even though Little River County is in a rural setting and many people are
associated with farming, the Farm-City Tour has been a success for two years.
Several years ago, the idea of a Farm-City Tour surfaced. The idea was rolled
around for awhile, then it was decided to give it a try.
The Extension Service along with the Extension Council, Farm Bureau, Ashdown
School District and local businesses sponsored the tour. Some 25 school
teachers, local businessmen, and community leaders participated in the tour.
Participants got to see first-hand the crops that are grown in the county and
visit with local farmers. The tour concluded with a meal of all Arkansas grown
products.
Participants enjoyed the tour so much that they requested it be done again
the next year. Some 45 area people participated on the second tour and teachers
who attended received in-service credit.
The tour is planned for next year and an additional tour for school students
has been discussed.
