Johnson County
4-H and Youth
4-H is the youth development program of the University of Arkansas
Cooperative Extension Service. 4-H is for all youth between the ages of 5 and
19. As a 4-H member you learn new skills, do interesting things, make new
friends and HAVE FUN!
4-H teaches leadership, citizenship and life skills that children will use
throughout their lives. What can you do in 4-H? Well, how about camping,
fishing, bicycling, horseback riding, photography, shooting sports and livestock
projects to name just a few. You can also learn things like pet care, gardening,
cooking and babysitting skills.
Johnson County 4-H members participate in the county garden project, county
day camp, state 4-H camp, achievement program, fashion revue, talent show,
district and state horse shows, and other exciting trips and tours.
4-H members
also participate in community service projects to help other people.
Adult volunteers and parents are also a vital part of the 4-H program. They
work with the Extension staff to plan and teach projects to children using the
"learn-by-doing" method.
There are eight clubs in Johnson County that meet at different times and
locations.
