4-H Builds Strong Leadership Skills

Picture of young lady standing beside a Senator with American flag behind them.
Teen leaders excel in leadership skills in Howard County. Tessa White visits with Sen. Jim Hill.

Youth in 4-H focus on learning new skills, developing leadership and community service. Individual clubs conduct various community service projects throughout the year. Youth also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities at the local, district, state and national levels.

Tessa White and Daniel White spent ten days in our nation's capitol, Washington, D.C. on the Citizenship Washington Focus trip. While there they participated in several leadership building workshops and toured all the major monuments. During this trip 4-H'ers build relationships with youth from across the state and nation.

Chad Goss and Dexter Young participated in a ten day trip to the Philmont High Adventure Camp. This camp is a leadership and teamwork building experience. During this camp youth backpack through the Pecos Wilderness Area. They prepare their own food, set up camp each night and work as a team to successfully complete the trip.

Megan Goss received one of the highest honors in 4-H when she was recognized as an Arkansas Teen Star. Teen Stars are chosen for their leadership and community service activities. They are recognized during the annual Teen Leader Conference.

4-H members are encouraged to keep and develop 4-H Record Books which demonstrate growth and development of the member in the areas of skills learned, leadership and community service. Five members were recognized at the District 4-H O'Rama as record book winners.
