The Sharing Our Skills program, referred to as "SOS," is designed to address everyday issues such as simple and basic meal preparation, money management, health issues, household management, and personal growth. Developed, promoted, and implemented by the Garland County Extension Homemakers Council, this free program is provided monthly from January through July.
The objective of SOS is to share with people in Garland County the knowledge that EHC members have acquired over the years from a wealth of personal experiences, augmented by educational efforts of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service.
This free program involves EHC members across Garland County in an effort that is both educational and service-oriented. Attendees receive free childcare if needed, and in special instances, transportation has been provided as well. The program has involved all segments of the community, including stay-at-home moms, retirees, 4-Hers, and single parents.
Through the Sharing Our Skills program, EHC provides an opportunity for individuals and families to get back to basics. This joins beautifully with the Extension Homemakers' Council mission of empowering individuals and families to improve their quality of living through continuing education, leadership development, and community service.
