Couponing - Where to Find Coupons

[Susan Holman] Hi. How many of you who would see a ten dollar bill out of a trash
can would probably pick it up? But would you pick up a $100.00 package of coupons
and try to clip
them and save that money at the grocery store? A lot of you aren’t, but many of you would like to.
So let's take a look at couponing. Hi, my name is Susan Holman. I am the
County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences in Franklin County.
Today we'll start a series of podcasts concerning couponing. Now a lot of you
may be couponing already and hopefully I can give you some tips to continue on. Some of you may just be getting started.
Today we are going to
cover how to find coupons either from your Sunday paper, online,
or from the manufacturer. In series to come we'll talk about organization, putting your coupons
to work and how to save the most money. So let's get to today.
Where do you find coupons? If you don't have coupons to use you really don't
have any coupons to save money with.
Well, the number one way is through your Sunday paper [Susan holds up a
Sunday newspaper] as you see here.
Coupons are usually found in the middle with your comic strips or your
advertisements from different stores. Each Sunday varies. You may find 1-5 inserts
depending on Sundays. If you have a holiday that falls around a weekend in which
you are looking for coupons, there are usually not inserts. So usually on
Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving weekend, and if Christmas or Independence
Day, the Fourth of July, falls around a weekend you won't have inserts that
weekend.
Now let' take a look at some online
coupon sources that can help you print coupons from the privacy of your home.
[Video showing online coupon websites] It's time to take a look at how
to print some coupons online. This is becoming more popular everyday. We still
get the coupons in the paper, but printing online gives you the option to select
only what you want and print only those coupons. There are some websites out
there that require you to subscribe as members. I shy away from those,
that's your personal decision. The reason I do is because they tend to send you
quite a few e-mails, spam you, and I've not really had good luck out of them
like I do these sites.
The
ones I am going to show you today are
coupons.com
as you see here,
smartsource.com,
redplum.com
and then we are going to take a look at a manufacturer and show you how to print
coupons directly from a manufacturer's website.
This is coupons.com it
has the biggest selection of coupons online. It updates everyday so there's
something new almost all the time. So let's take a look. You can see where my
curser is here, there are ten or more pages of coupons to print. So you simply
scroll through them. If you want to print the coupon you click in this box next
to clip [Susan select the check box to clip the coupon]. See how the coupon
turned blue. So we are going to go through all of these pages, let me go through
and just select a few more. Which ever ones you want. It does take a few minutes
to decide what you'd like. Once your finished you click right here, this red
oval that says "print coupons". When I print that it is going to automatically
send the coupons to my personal printer. The first time you use these websites
you'll have to download the coupon printer. That is just to make sure the
website connects directly to your printer. It takes just a few minutes and it
works very easily from there.
Smart Source and the website we are going to look at now, Red Plum, these are
the most common inserts that you are going to see in your newspaper. So a lot of
times you can get double coupons, you'll get the ones from your paper and you
can print them here. Sometimes there are ones that are only available to print
online, so take a look at these and see what your options are. There are
anything from cereal, to medication, health and beauty, lots of food products,
sometimes even some over the counter medication. So those work on the same
principle, click the ones you want to print, click "get selected coupons".
Now let's look at a manufactures website. A lot of times you can go to
manufacturer's website and find coupons. If there are products you use on a
regular basis and you want to see if they provide coupons, this is the best way
is to check out the manufacturer's website. We are going to click right here
down on the bottom that says "try Fiber One with a $2.00 off coupon". Now this
is going to come up with what is called a brick's coupon. You can see right here
you just click "print coupon", it take a minutes and it's going to send it
straight to your printer. Sometimes it asked you before hand "are you sure your
printer's connected".
So that's a good overview of online coupons.
I hope today you were able to find the best way for you to find coupons
whether it be in the Sunday Paper or printing online or maybe even a combination
of both.
