Adults Improve Health by "Reshaping" Choices

In an effort to "reshape" their bodies and eating habits, 15 men and women in Faulkner County lost a total of 92 pounds and walked the equivalent distance from Conway, Arkansas to Ft. Lauderdale Florida, which is approximately 1,134 miles. The dietary and exercise changes they made to reach their weight management goals were crucial to their long term health. In Arkansas a majority of deaths occur from diet related illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

After completing the 12 weekly sessions of the "Reshape Yourself" Healthy Weight Management Program, several clients boasted that they had reduced their blood pressure and cholesterol. The "Reshape Yourself" program encouraged sensible food selections and walking for exercise. It focused on making lifelong behavioral changes rather than quick fixes or fad diets.

The success of the class can be summed up in these words from a "Reshape Yourself" graduate, "I am committed to making healthy choices for me and my family. I plan to continue the exercise and diet habits as a way of life."
