Description of Activity:
The Arkansas 4-H Tech Team consists of up to 10 4-H’ers throughout the state who are interested in developing leadership skills through science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) knowledge. The workshops are meant to be “train-the-trainer” meetings where team members learn skills in order to teach STEM workshops in their respective counties and regions.  Some meetings may also include a tour of places that utilize STEM knowledge.

Goals/Objectives:
To train leaders in STEM education
To introduce 4-H members to various careers in STEM
To learn new skills in STEM
To network with other 4-H members who are interested in STEM
To train other 4-H’ers and Agents/PA’s in STEM curriculum

2012 Calendar:  

  • Workshop #1 – Delta District Training  Tech Team members will travel to a Delta District county to conduct a STEM training.
    • Date TBA
  • Workshop #2 – Ozark District Training Tech Team members will travel to a Ozark District county to conduct a STEM training.
    • Date TBA
  • Workshop #3 – Ouachita District Training  Tech Team members will travel to a Ouachita District county to conduct a STEM training.
    • Date TBA
  • Missouri FilmFest   Tech Team members will have the opportunity to take an extra-curricular trip to the Missouri Film Festival.  A team-made video must be produced for this trip to occur.
    • Date TBA per Missouri 4-H
  • National Youth Science Day The team is encouraged to lead the NYSD experiment in their local clubs or schools.
    • Early October- Date TBA per National 4-H Council
  • Arkansas State Fair 4-H Activities We need volunteers to help 4-H with the State Fair STEM activities.
    • Mid-October
  • Other Workshops The team will have other opportunities to conduct STEM workshops throughout the year.
    • Dates TBA as needed
  • 2012 Arkansas 4-H Tech Team Applications Due in the State Office
    • December 15, 2012

Target Audience:
Tech Team is open to Senior 4-H members (14-19 years of age) who are interested in science, technology, engineering or math.   Team members must re-apply every year using the new application (FY4-H-657 MSWord).  The new application will be available from Jef Ferguson or from your County Agent.  Adults are able to apply as team leaders.  Applications are due at the same time as team member applications. Adults continue to use form FY4-H-656 (MSWord).

Application Information:
Applications are accepted by December 15th via hard copy to the State 4-H office.

Costs:
A yearly fee of $100 is assessed to cover the costs of travel, rooming, etc.  Please note, the fee amount may change slightly, depending on donor funding.
