[Video shows soybean fields, researchers, greenhouses, soybean plant and leaves some with diseases and insect damage] Since 1990, the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board has supported the most comprehensive soybean disease-screening program in the southern United States. A combination of field nurseries and greenhouse tests are used to evaluate all cultivars entered in the University of Arkansas Variety Testing Program each year. [Pictures of the Soybean Update publication] The result of this effort forms the basis for our annual soybean update, which aids the growers in determining which cultivar to plant each year.

[Video shows soybean fields, researchers, greenhouses, soybean plant and leaves some with diseases and insect damage, and the facilities at Newport, Fayetteville, Hope and Lonoke] The screening program includes yield disease nurseries maintained at the Newport experiment station, for evaluating cultivars for resistance to southern stem canker, frog-eye leaf spot and aerial blight. In addition to diseases, the program also screens for resistance and susceptibility to nematodes in greenhouse trials on the Fayetteville campus. There are also greenhouse screens set up for the southern root-knot nematode at the Southwest Research and Extension Center in Hope. And then finally, there is a pilot program to develop an additional screening program for sudden death syndrome in soybeans at the Lonoke Agriculture Extension and Research Center.
