Peanut Production in Arkansas

Rows of green peanut plants in a field with dirt paths between each row.

There has been a renewed interest in commercial peanut production in Arkansas. In 2011 producers planted 4,000 acres of runner type peanut and 18,000 acres in 2012. Yields have averaged 4,250 to 4,500 lb per acres over the past few seasons. In 2012, two peanut buying points were opened near Pocahontas and Walnut Ridge, which provides producers a local market for their crop.
